What to Wear to Office When it’s too cold?

The cold months are already here. You don't move away from the sun anymore, rather soak in the sun rays. You can feel the nip in the air, your chapped lips, dry skin, and not to forget you have started wearing too many layers before you step out of your home. As the winter sets in, our wardrobe become a little drab. You always hibernate in the same sweaters, pullovers and denim. The chill in the air should not be a reason for you to turn down your fashion game. If you find yourself wearing the same black sweater every day to work, then you're in the right place. This article tells you how you can turn your drab winter clothes to fab and keep yourself warm yet stylish in the office.

  1. Layering- Layering is all about combining several clothes for maximum style, comfort and warmth. This trick is helpful for both men and women. Layering makes you look bulkier, so you should be very careful about the clothes you want to layer. Try layering with clothes that are made of thinner fabrics. Wear the warmest cloth on top, because if you feel warm inside the office, you can easily take the top layer off. Be careful to not layer clothes of different contrast together, it's best to stick to neutral hues like blue, brown, tan, black for a corporate look. Wearing multiple designs can look unprofessional, this is not how you want to dress for your office. Make sure your longer hemlines are on the outer side.

It is again another piece of clothing that can be rocked by both men and women. Women, pair your turtleneck with formal pants, skirts, palazzos. You can also wear a turtleneck underneath your dress. Men can wear a turtleneck under a blazer, or suede jackets. Turtlenecks will keep you cosy, yet in style.
  3. Reversible Coats- Just because you don't want to repeat your clothes to your office doesn't mean you will spend half your salary on fancy sweaters and coats. If you style your clothes right you don't need different outfits every day. If you don't have a great winter coat, then it's high time you buy one. Depending on the rest of your outfit you can change it up and pull a new look together. Both men and women should have a great winter coat.
  4. Knit Dresses- Knit dresses are comfortable, versatile and are very formal. Sweater dresses never go out of style, and we are super delighted about it. You can pair the dress with boots, trench coats or vest coats. It will keep you warm. You can experiment in several ways with a knit dress. Wear knit dresses on Saturdays when you want to head straight to the party after work.
  5. Scarfs- No matter what you are wearing, you can always add a scarf to your outfit. They come in several patterns and sizes. You can also accessorize a silk scarf as a hair tie. Opt for woollen scarfs with your long coats. Always keep a scarf in your handbag for the extra chilly days.
  6. Stocking- You can wear stockings with your dresses to work. Avoid wearing net stockings. Instead, wear woollen ones. Worn with pencil skirts, dresses they add the right amount of spice to your office winter outfits. Stick to dark colours like navy blue, black. An elegant pair of cashmere tights is the ultimate way to keep your legs from freezing.
  7. Shrugs and Capes- Last but not least, take out the shrugs, shawls, and capes. They help in layering. If you have a beautiful pashmina shawl, or a blanket shawl make it part of your everyday winter outfits. We usually keep shawls away from our wardrobe for we think they go well with ethnic outfits only, but there are several ways to style a shawl with your western outfits. Shrugs are also a great way to add a layer to your outfit. Men can wear shrugs over turtleneck or tee shirts. Women can wear shrugs over knit dresses, tops, or tunics.

Whether you work 9 to 5 in a business casual, or a creative field, or a more corporate setting, these tips will get you through Monday to Saturday in style. If your office has no dress code, then experiment with your outfits to your heart's content. This winter season, think layers, knits, and neutral hues.
